Testing USB Flash Drives

In the course of testing a number of USB Flash Drives lately—notably the Kingston Black Box and Secure Privacy edition, the SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise Edition and the Imation Pivot Plus, I decided it would be useful to see how fast the drives were.
So I created a test folder of 317MB of files in multiple folder and copied it to a number of different USB drives I had around, ranging from a "no name" drive that a press release came on to high-end drives from Kingston and SanDisk. Can you see a difference? You bet:
It didn't surprise me that the more expensive drives—those marketed as performance drives or enterprise drives—performed significantly better than the standard drives or just the drives. But I was surprised at the range of the difference.
